This new annual watering guide for lawns has been developed to help further improve water conservation efforts. A table of recommended rates is provided below for different sprinkler types and shows the sprinkler run times you should employ on each of your rostered irrigation days (being three days a week to bore water users and two days a week for scheme water users). Using this schedule will save water and money and ensure your lawn will always look its best. The schedule is based on lawns established on an improved soil in combination with the use of a premium soil wetting agent and Biagra water retainer.
Note: During very hot or long dry periods, the lawn may require an extra application of hand watering in between the rostered watering days.

Always ensure you water early in the morning, usually between 5:00 am and 8:00 am. If windy when watering, then alternate watering is recommended, one day in the morning and one day in the evening, to avoid dry spots.
Please note: For Buffalo lawn varieties in shady areas, cut down watering to once every second day for 10 minutes after the first ten days or else the grass will rot. Rotting is the result of too much water and not enough sun.

If the lawn shows signs of stress (a loss of bright colour and slight wilting), then you need to give a good deep drink of 10mm of water per day as soon as possible until it recovers. In order to know how much water your system is applying; you need to measure its output; this is quite simple to do. All you need is an empty ice cream container, or a similar catch cup placed out on the lawn. Then turn the sprinklers on, and time how long it takes to gather 10mm of water in the bottom of the container. This will give you the correct setting for the duration of watering for that station on your controller. Check different spots to make sure you get an even coverage and that no spot gets less than the minimum.
The Water Corporation can advise you of current rules and regulations regarding lawn watering. When establishing a new lawn, you can contact the Water Corporation to get a 'new lawn' certificate of exemption from any dominant watering guidelines. To apply, call the Waterwise Helpline on 131 039.
The grass is a living thing, and just like us, it needs water to survive! Westland Turf always recommends underground-automated reticulation to ensure the needs of your grass are met.
7-10 days of installation. After this, mow weekly during the summer months and then fortnightly in the winter. Mow the grass longer in periods of extreme heat, in shady conditions, and in late autumn.
We recommend the use of the 'Palmetto Premium Lawn Fertiliser', applied at 20 grams per square metre. Use a minimum of 3 times a year during spring, summer, and autumn. For best results, use at 8-week intervals.

Autumn is a transitional season, when the weather starts to cool down and the days become shorter.
Regardless of whether you own your own home or rent, this is an excellent time to prepare your lawn
for the upcoming winter months.
Here are nine tips for mowing lawns during autumn.
Weeds can still grow in autumn, so it’s essential to control them
before they become a problem. Use a herbicide or manual
removal to get rid of any weeds, such as dandelions or clover,
that are starting to take over your lawn.
Reseed bare patches
Autumn is an excellent time to reseed any bare patches in your lawn.
Use a high-quality grass seed and follow the instructions for application.
Make sure to keep the newly seeded areas moist until the grass starts to grow.
There’s nothing quite like a healthy green lawn for lifting the spirits.
Indeed, research has found people who are more
connected with nature, which includes parks and
gardens as well as bushland, are usually happier in life.
So it’s no wonder keen gardeners do their utmost to
keep their yards green and lush year round. But that
can be tricky when you’re living in a big country like
Australia, with its multiple climatic zones and
extremes of weather that range from very hot to
very cold and very wet to very dry.
Yellowing or browning is usually a sign that your lawn is not happy.
There might be one cause, or several, but this
is the only way your lawn can let you know it needs help.
Read on for our tips for keeping a green lawn year-round.
